10th Congressional District: Teachers union backs Seals

The Illinois Federation of Teachers has endorsed Democrat Dan Seals in his Nov. 2 bid for the 10th Congressional District. "Dan Seals will fight for our children and their education," IFT President Ed Geppert stated. "We still face great challenges in providing a quality education to students." Among other policies, Seals favors overhauling the No Child Left Behind Act, which ties student performance to federal funding. The Illinois Federation of Teachers is an AFL-CIO-affiliated union that represents more than 103,000 teachers, education workers and public employees in Illinois.

Kirk changes mind, votes against 'jobs bill'

Just a day after Republican Senate candidate Mark Kirk said he was "inclined" to vote for a $26 billion "jobs bill" to funnel federal money to the states to stave off teacher layoffs, Kirk voted against it.

Candidate Walsh lawsuit hearing scheduled Oct. 20

Attorneys on both sides of the lawsuit filed against U.S. 8th Congressional District Republican nominee Joe Walsh alleging nonpayment of bills for campaign management services were given the OK Wednesday morning in Cook County Circuit Court to begin compiling facts for their respective cases.
